The village of Wetheral is built above the banks of the River Eden around a picturesque village green. To the east the 19th century viaduct towers above the river with some of the best salmon fishing in the country, further along the river you can view a magnificent waterfall cascading down from Corby Castle, woodland walks leads to the remains of the caves used by the monks in the 14th century.

Geltsdale was built as a private house for the Mayor of Carlisle in 1904 in the village of Wetheral, which is recognised as an unspoilt beauty spot. Geltsdale is in a tranquil setting surrounded by several acres of garden and woodland and enjoys views over the grounds and River Eden to the Castle Carrock Fells. Geltsdale is approx. 2 miles from Carlisle Golf Course.

Location

The picturesque village of Wetheral is within a 10 minute drive of the historic city of Carlisle with a wealth of activities and attractions for the whole family to enjoy, along with the Lanes Shopping Centre with all your favourite high street shops. There are numerous bars and restaurants for a night out, parks for picnics, soft play and a trampoline park for the kids, and historians will delight in the castle, cathedral and museum to explore.

The village of Wetheral lies 5 miles east of Carlisle and is perfect for a relaxing break at any time of year. Romantic leisurely walks can be enjoyed along the banks of the River Eden with views across the river to Corby Castle which eventually leads to the caves. There is a village shop and restaurant overlooking the village green, and a further traditional pub and hotel offering leisure club facilities within the village.

Located just off the A69 this is the perfect base for exploring with Lake Ullswater, Hadrian’s Wall, the Eden Valley and Scottish Borders all within a half hours drive and Newcastle is a little over an hours drive away.
